When shopping for a new boat or outboard, the latest models may catch your eye, but last year’s inventory can be an incredibly smart choice. Whether you’re considering an inflatable boat, fiberglass boat, or outboard engine, buying a previous year’s model offers significant benefits without compromising on performance, reliability, or innovation.

Why Last Year’s Boats Are Still a Great Investment

One of the biggest misconceptions in the boating world is that a boat’s date of manufacture determines its relevance. In reality, boat models don’t follow the same yearly upgrade cycle as cars. Many manufacturers release updates only when necessary, meaning last year’s model is often nearly identical to the newest release—sometimes at a much better price point.

Inflatable boats and fiberglass boats are designed for durability and functionality, making last year’s models just as capable as brand-new ones. Whether you’re looking at an adventure-ready inflatable for easy transport or a sleek fiberglass boat for coastal cruising, choosing a prior-year model can be a savvy way to maximize value.

Outboards: Model Number Over Year

Unlike cars, outboard motors are not defined by the year they were manufactured. Instead, manufacturers classify them by model number, which stays consistent even if the engine was built in different years. This means that the 2025 version of a particular outboard may be identical to the 2024 model, allowing you to take advantage of last year’s pricing without sacrificing cutting-edge engineering.

Full Warranty on Non-Current Models

Paying less, doesn’t mean you get less. Choosing last year’s inventory means big savings with zero compromise—every non-current boat and outboard comes with a full manufacturer’s warranty. You get the same coverage on performance, reliability, and craftsmanship as the latest models, ensuring peace of mind and great value.

The Savings Advantage

Opting for last year’s inventory often results in substantial savings as dealers make room for new stock. You can capitalize on competitive pricing, exclusive dealer incentives, and even extended warranties on prior-year models. Whether you’re gearing up for a summer on the water or searching for the right upgrade, considering last year’s inventory is a smart financial move that delivers the same great experience.
